Edna Huang, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, is a highly sought-after freelance clarinetist who performs regularly with distinguished ensembles, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , Richmond Symphony, and Washington Concert Opera. She is an active member of Opera Delaware, the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, and Washington Concert Opera. As a soloist, Ms. Huang has appeared frequently with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony during her tenure as Principal Clarinet from 2006-2016. She has also held positions as bass clarinetist with the Baltimore Opera Company, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and Maryland Lyric Opera, and performed with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra from 2007-2023.
A dedicated advocate for music education, Ms. Huang maintains a thriving private teaching studio, where her students consistently achieve success in competitive ensembles, concerto competitions, and scholarship awards. Her collegiate teaching experience includes appointments at Goucher College, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and Mount St. Mary’s University. She also spent 12 years teaching in the TWIGS program at the Baltimore School for the Arts, providing Baltimore City students with free access to music instruction, ensemble participation, and music theory education. She currently serves as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra clarinet mentor in the OrchKids program.
Ms. Huang earned her Bachelor of Music degree with honors in Clarinet Performance and Music Education from Boston University and holds a Graduate Performance Diploma from The Boston Conservatory. Her principal teachers include Julie Vaverka of the Boston Symphony, and Chris Wolfe of the Baltimore Symphony. She has also participated in masterclasses with renowned clarinetists Larry Combs and John Bruce Yeh of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as well as George Silfies of the St. Louis Symphony, and Mitchell Lurie.
